one cuff away from Wonder Woman

chambray top, thrifted
DKNY jeans, Macy's
necklace, Haitian Beads

These pants did not photograph well at all, and this is the best I could do with some tweaking in PicMonkey. Nothing really special about this outfit, except that I'm wearing the silk cuff I made a long time ago! I never wore it on the blog because I figured out the standard metal cuff blank is too big for my wrist - it kept falling off. However, I inadvertently squished the cuff opening smaller because it got stuck under something heavy. Um, yay for disorganization and not putting things away properly?!??
This silk tie cuff was a pretty easy DIY and a fun way to repurpose a thrifted tie. I'm not quite satisfied with how I hand-stitched one end (the rest was machine-stitched). However, since I bought an entire set of cuff blanks I'm looking forward to perfecting my technique over the summer. I'm actually tempted to sew a matching pair of cuffs and wear them a la Wonder Woman - some days in the classroom call for dressing like a superhero.

Try-it-out Tuesday: crazy pants

Things I love about Ross: the variety and prices.
Things I don't love about Ross: finding something great ... in the wrong size.
Exhibit A: these possibly fantastic pants, which I could only find in a medium.

Polo?/Ralph Lauren? shirt (free from Mom)
Double Take tie-waist palazzo pants, (Ross, $12.99)
red lucite 6-strand necklace, eBay

I spent quite a bit of time fussing with the ties to ensure that the excess fabric wasn't lumpy or bunched up. After I finally got it tied to my satisfaction, and put on the shirt, and necklace, and focused the camera ... the camera battery died. So I had to get undressed, put the battery in its charger, and kill some time. This would have made me a bit grumpy on most days, but I had freshly baked cookies to nibble on while I waited, so it was OK. :)

These pants are as comfortable as pajamas, and they kind of remind me of the hakama I wear for aikido. (Yes, that is a strange reason to like an item of clothing). The only problem is that they're too big. I might consider checking the other Ross in town to see if I can find the right size. Or maybe there's a way to take in some of the extra fabric?
Anyhow, I've decided that just as every woman needs a LBDD (little black dress with a difference), she should also own a pair of "crazy pants" -- statement-making bottoms. Do you own a pair?
    Happy Tuesday!

Try-it-out Tuesday: texture + monochrome (almost)

Today's Try-it-out Tuesday features two rarely worn items: an embellished linen tunic and a boldly printed dress (this dress takes my love of big prints to new heights). I thought this would be a fun, subtle way to double up on the florals, and I liked the texture of the linen embellishment contrasted with the skirt.

Charter Club embellished linen tunic: passed down from mom (Macy's)
Style & Co. petite dress: Macy's
6-strand red lucite necklace: eBay

I've always thought this dress would look cute with a red necklace. Due to its size, this necklace is out of my comfort zone, but I like how it looks peeping out of a black shirt.
I feel like this outfit is my first step out of a style rut. I felt good wearing it and I got to play with texture and prints! :)

It doesn't really show up in the photos, but the big flower print on the skirt has splashes of a very light gray/tan. That gives me some ideas on how to wear it the next time around.

Something else that, thankfully, doesn't show up in the photos: a fresh bruise the size of a half-dollar on my right shin. Just a souvenir from early morning aikido practice, and another merit badge for the Klutz Scouts. What, you mean you aren't a member??
