hearts and dots

Hurley tee and escio cardigan, Ross

Surf tees are a common sight here, but I thought the pattern mix was a fun spin on what can be a cliche item.
My students made me proud last week. The deadlines for our data collection for math and writing kind of crept up on us, and we needed the data posthaste. My students spent the majority of Thursday filling out a graphic organizer to help them plan their essay, then writing the essay itself. I was pleased that I didn't hear any complaints - I'm sure their brains were tired by the end of the day! So I stayed up late Thursday night, making a double batch of energy bars that I passed out as a treat on Friday.
Something else I'm proud of is that I scored proficient in all areas on my latest teacher evaluation! I know I have a lot more growing to do but it's always nice to pause and recognize the progress I've made.

  1. Good job! Also, I'm glad to see that you can still bring in treats for your kids; some schools have stopped letting anyone bring in outside treats.

  7. Yes, I'm sure there's a wellness policy in the works somewhere that will cut down on the goodies! I know some schools here are peanut-free as well but so far we haven't gone that route.
I do think our kids need to eat better - I'm still appalled to see my students snacking on junk first thing in the morning. Yeah, I admit that I grew up eating Pop-Tarts for breakfast on occasion, but at least I didn't throw down handfuls of Hot Cheetos at 7:30 a.m. as a chaser!
At the same time, though, there needs to be balance. I don't think that restricting junk works when we don't engage kids in thinking about what is a healthy choice.

  8. Aww, thanks, Gracey! :) I'm still a little hesitant to pattern-mix at work - I'm sure people wonder why the heck I'm wearing two prints on top!

  9. Thanks, Ally! It's nice to hear and writing down something positive helps me savor it twice. I could write an esssay about how I believe the current climate in public education is focused on deficits vs. celebrating the good things that happen everyday, but I'll refrain.

  10. Thanks, Megan! I only own two printed cardigans, and I don't wear them enough. But they are really fun to wear!

  12. Thanks, Mark! I'm sure I got a few odd glances for the pattern mix but I had fun wearing it.
