Try-it-out Tuesday: walking in rainbows

I find that some clothes make me smile when I look at them. This boys' buttondown is one of those items. I always think of it as my "painter's shirt," probably because of the multi-colored stripes.

I decided to increase the color fun and wear my new sweater. I love the cheery green hue and that it is made up of different stitches. The one thing I'm a little iffy about is the fit -- I'm considering introducing it to my dryer for a little shrinkage. I feel the torso is a bit baggy, and the sleeves a little too long.
I've been on a green and red kick lately (despite the strange look I got the last time I wore the combination), so I added red jewelry to top off the look.

While I've always enjoyed color, I usually don't pile it on -- so this was wonderful fun. I felt a little like a mad scientist in the color lab!! I do think the striped shirt pulled the look together. Although it doesn't have green stripes, it includes red, and I think that made this outfit look a bit more cohesive.
Do you agree with my rationale? What rules do you follow when you play with color?

  1. My only rule when playing with color is that if I look ridiculous in the mirror I take it off! (Also, I don't wear colors I hate.) But I'm more colorful in my head than in life, so you might take that with a grain of salt...

  3. Loving the green sweater but I agree that some shrinkage would make it fit a little better :) And those Amirta earrings! Lovely! Hmmm rules when playing with color - I like using colors that work well together - if you check out the color wheel you can see that colors opposite each other work well together :) Wendy from wendyslookbook did a great video on it! Also I don't like wearing colors that don't suit my skin tone hehe :)

  4. I love those bangles and that's cute sweater! If I have one bright color I try to even it out with other neutral colors.

I love those Amrita earrings too, but I don't wear them much. I should, though. :)

  6. I like the idea of making a bright color the focus by keeping everything neutral. Going to have to try that out with this sweater ... :)

  7. Cute outfit! I usually play it safe and only use two different colors if one is in the pattern of the other, but you are rocking these two shirts! They look great : )

  15. The one thing I don't like about boys' clothing is that it's extremely boxy, but that's not a problem if it's a layering piece. :) Good luck scouting out the men's department! I like the boys department because the prices are often better. :)
