Try-it-out Tuesday: crop top

crop top, Savers
camisole, Forever 21
petite trouser jeans, Macy's
necklace, eBay

I never thought I'd buy a crop top,  but I couldn't resist the abstract print and blue and gray palette - and isn't thrift-store shopping about taking a risk, anyhow?  I guess you could say this is a cop-out way of styling a crop top, but it meant I could wear my fun shirt to work and not worry about flashing anyone with glimpses of my midriff.

I can't seem to take this necklace off lately, but that's fine with me. I've always liked it, but been unsure how to style it. (Who knew that the simple answer was to wear it with _everything_?)
I've been listening to an audiobook of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" on my daily commute, and it has been a nice change from listening to the radio. However, I had to audibly "hrmph" at the part where Father Christmas says something about battles being ugly when women are involved. It's interesting to revisit something you read as a child and have certain attitudes or ideas forcibly jump out at you.

  1. What a beautiful top. I have a necktie with the same print. It reminds me of the brushstroke of a painting.
You styled it perfectly. I need to learn how to do that with some of the cropped tops I have since nobody wants to see my tummy.

  2. The tank you layered under it is such a seamless transition. I don't think I own any crop tops but I'll have to give it a try if I find one I like.

  3. Ally - the brushstroke-like print puts this top into the category that I think of as "artist clothes." I have a rainbow-striped buttondown that falls into the same category. They strike me as things that an artist would wear.
Like you, I am not comfortable baring my tummy. I'd like to try wearing this top with a high-waisted skirt or over a dress next! You have some cute crop tops, so have fun playing with them and experimenting with styling them to suit you.

  4. Thanks, Aya! My big concern about layering a camisole underneath was that doing so would result in awkward proportions. I think the gray camisole works because it's kind of an intermediate color - not as dark as the pants, and it goes well with the grayish-blue in the print. I think black would have been too much of a contrast.
