versatile brights & what to do with your hands?

dress, Old Navy
scarf, Ross clearance
belt, from dress
earrings, New Zealand
jewelry - gifted jade beetles, InPink turquoise and wood bracelet

Breaking out this scarf to accessorize my green striped tee recently inspired me to pair it with something else green - this dress. Unfortunately, the material snags easily and is starting to show its age, but I've had fun experimenting with a green dress and plan to eventually get a better-quality replacement.

Breaking out two of my default poses here - (1) the elbow on the dresser and (2) looking down.
Every time I'm standing in front of a camera and trying to figure out what to do with my hands, I'm reminded of "Talladega Nights," when Ricky Bobby is being interviewed and his hands keep floating up. Like him, "I'm not sure what to do with my hands." And I didn't notice before, but one of the other characters makes a crack about him having two first names, which I do as well!

What's your favorite photo pose?

  1. Yes! The hands... my default is the casual hair touch- I do it all the time!

I love your dress, and I think the scarf gives it a totally different look than wearing it plain!

  2. Ha! I wonder about posing and hand-positions all the time. The dress and scarf are attractive.

  3. Hahaha. I never, ever know what to do with my hands; I think I'm just going to start letting them float up in front of my face, Rickey Bobby style!

  4. Love your scarf! And I hear ya... I never know what to do with my hands, especially when I'm trying to hide a camera remote at the same time! It gets awkward to say the least :D

  5. I usually spend my time trying to hide my remote clicker, so one hand is Always looking awkward in my pics, haha. You should wear green more often, I like that color on you!

  8. Thank you, Megan! My mom actually unearthed the scarf in Ross' clearance section. And you always look so composed in your photos! :)

  9. Thanks, Lisa! I've always been told that Asians can't wear green, but it's one of my new favorites. :) I was bummed to find out that my camera won't work with a remote, but now I realize that my photos would be even more awkward if I had to juggle a remote, too!

  10. Thank you, Fran! :) The hand on the hip is another favorite of mine. :) I never have much time to take photos, so I fall back on the trusty poses so I can get the photos done quickly!

  13. That movie is fantastic, no matter how many times I see it, I still end up laughing my head off. :) I never really notice anyone's hands in pictures unless they're doing something really weird but I get what you mean! I usually just try to hold them at my sides or something but it's not that interesting.
I know I always say how awesome color looks on you but really! I mean, first the yellow shirt and now the stunning green dress, color just looks AMAZING on you. I love the darker color of the scarf, that's a fabulous idea to pair a darker, natural shade with a brighter version of it, it looks crazy chic.)

  14. Thanks, Brett! Good thing we only have two hands ... it's hard enough as it is to figure out what to do with them for photos. :)

  15. Katie -the husband loves humor, so he's the one that first introduced me to that movie. I think one of my favorite scenes is when they're saying grace at home and arguing over which Jesus to pray to. ;)
"Crazy chic" - I wish I could pull that off everyday! :) I think I'm learning, though ... I've worn this dress quite a bit, just don't know why I never thought about pairing it with the scarf. Will definitely wear this again!
