it's in the mail: J. Crew Factory mini-splurge

While I enjoy being on retailers' e-mail lists - I've always got an eye out for that elusive free-shipping deal that includes Hawaii - the bad thing is that sometimes I end up buying stuff that I really wasn't planning to. Like this long-sleeve sequin-stripe boatneck tee in neon coral:

I've never bought from the J. Crew Factory girls' section before, but fingers crossed that a size 14 fits well. Yes, I own a lot of stripes, but no sequin-stripe tees, and no coral at all.
And then I got this metallic-lined patent skinny belt in neon azalea from the womens' section:

The experience of scoring beautiful belts at Goodwill for $3 has really turned me off from buying belts in non-thrift stores, but I thought this was such a fun color. I don't really own many pink accessories, either. (Keep rationalizing and making it sound like a well-thought-out purchase vs. an impulse mini-splurge ... )
Since I used a promo code to get 30% off, this mini-splurge came out to less than $25.
What's the last thing you bought on impulse? Or are you one of those disciplined folks who plots out exactly what to buy and doesn't deviate from the list?

  1. I love the top. I think I may need a sequin stripe top too; they're so cute. And that belt is such a gorgeous color. I think you'll get a lot of wear out of it. I'm like you though, if I'm not thrifting a belt, I'm probably not buying it. Except Target clearance belts; those come home fairly often.

  2. Very cute top. A J. Crew factory girls size 14 should fit like a xs or s for adults. Those emails are dangerous as I'm always tempted to grab good deals and buy too many things on impulse :(

  3. I think I bought a dress on impulse and then realised it was a little too short for work hehe but I think I will make it work out :)
The coral sweater is sweet :)

  4. I think that sparkly striped top is great - it'd look fantastic paired with denim!

  5. Love sequin stripes. The last thing I bought on impulse was a cute neon infinity scarf. It was on sale for $5 and the original price was $20, so I wouldn't really call it an impulse, haha!

  6. I hope you find a sequin top of your own, Gracey - I would love to see how you style yours. :)
Someone gave me a Target giftcard for Christmas, so now I have a good excuse to check out Target's clearance sections ... :D

  7. Thanks for sharing the sizing info! You're right about those e-mails - most of the time I just look but don't buy, but I'm wondering if I should just avoid temptation entirely and stop subscribing to the e-mail alerts!

  8. Kat - I've fallen into the same trap, particularly in the junior's section - cute dresses, but usually a few inches shorter than I'd like! Would love to see your impulse dress! :)

  10. Dude, you and me both of the free shipping thing. It's awful how we get treated like we're different countries the shipping rates just get insane. (I was looking at a pair of shoes on the steve madden site and while shipping to the lower 48 is $6.95, to Alaska and Hawaii it's$24.95! Grrrr.) Leather belts are always worth a little splurge, those seem to be the one thing I can't find at the thrift stores!

  11. i am a very impulsive buyer, but i am also very frugal. i would feel the same way as you, but you have made a great case for buying it. plus, you deserve a little treat every once in a while!! plus, sequins and pink belts...you can't go wrong!

  12. Katie - $24.95 for a pair of shoes??!? Outrageous. If I really really want something with a crazy shipping fee, I will have it sent to my sis on the Mainland and she'll send it along via USPS. But I'd happily buy from the retailers if only they charged reasonable rates. :\ We need to start an Internet/twitter campaign or something!

  13. I would have never guessed that you were impulse shoppers - you always remix things so beautifully, it looks like you thought carefully about how an item would fit into your closet! And yes, getting things for a great price makes me feel less guilty ... ;)
