My sister, cousin and I had the priceless experience of spending a great deal of time with our grandparents as we grew up. We spent much of our summer at their little green-and-white cottage, and one of the things we cherished about the house was that our grandpa would take a pencil and mark our heights against the left-hand side of the hall.
