Calvin Klein strapless dress, (Ross, old)
chambray pullover (passed down from Mom)
navy-and-green leatherette colorblock belt (Forever 21)
I'm not very comfortable wearing strapless dresses or tops, so I layered on a chambray pullover. (What on earth possessed me to buy a strapless dress? Can we say, impractical?) It also gives the dress a more casual feel. I added a belt to balance out the full skirt with a well-defined waist.
The very full skirt is a different look and feel for me, but I love the print, color (the tag says it's "electric pink") and the length actually makes it suitable for work. I think it would look really cute with a buttondown tied at the waist, a red cardigan, or even a different belt.
My friend and I went to an Italian restaurant, and there was a basket of warm, crusty-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside bread. Empty carbs with a slathering of butter=<3. I was reminded of comedian Jim Gaffigan's discussion of bread, especially when we ended up chomping our way through most of a second basket. Let's just say I needed to loosen the belt a bit on my way home ...
I think the dress is adorable, and I love how you layered it! I'd totally rock this look to class or work :)

Great one Carrie :) I would probably do a cardigan with the strapless dress to formal it up :)

I adore the print on that dress!
ReplyDeleteI don't own a single strapless dress though I think gals look gorgeous and classy in them.
I've also seen some gals wear a tight tee or tank under the dress - in white I think it could be a fab way to show off the dress while still keeping it modest and appropriate for day.
You did a great job with this dress :) Super cute spring outfit!
ReplyDeleteI think that dress is fabulous, so I can understand why you bought it. And the chambray pull-over with it is just perfect. Great mix of ladylike and tough.
ReplyDeletewhat a cute outfit!! I love the dress with the chambray pullover, it gives the dress an extra chic look.
ReplyDeletethank you, sayaka! :)
ReplyDeletethank you, gracey. :) when I first got the chambray pullover from mom, I wondered how to wear it ... now I have to stop myself from wearing it with everything! :)
ReplyDeletethank you, katie! :)
ReplyDeletegreat idea to layer the dress over a slim tee or tank! gotta try that. :)
ReplyDeletethanks, kat! definitely going to try it with my red cardigan. :)
ReplyDeletethank you, Inna! :)
ReplyDeleteYummm Italian food sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI love the chambray layered over this, and I'm the same way, I feel weird in strapless items!
thanks, Megan! :)
ReplyDeleteLoving this pink skirt - and how you belted that chambray with it - so cute :)

This looks awesome! I love that dress! I know that dress because I went w/a friend to go dress shopping for a wedding and she tried it on! It's beautiful and I hope you do wear it just on its own, strapless takes some time to get used to it.
ReplyDeleteSometimes strapless dresses can be a pain, so I don't want to wear them, but I love your dress here- it's so pretty! :) P.S. The Correspondence Club post is going live at midnight with your pictures and lovely quote! :)
ReplyDeletethanks, nnenna! looking forward to seeing the correspondence club post. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bessie! :) I actually bought this to wear to a wedding, ended up buying and wearing a different dress (which I also don't wear enough).
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annie! I'm late to the chambray party, trying to make up for it. :)
ReplyDeleteGood choice with the belt at the waist! I'd like to see it with a cardigan, I think it'd look just as cute! Or a blazer and some heels. :D
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is cute especially with the polka dots and electric pink. The chambray shirt is a good layering idea for the strapless dress. i prefer layering a strapless dress too for modesty. You look classy and chic for a date out with your girlfriend.
