unlikely summer revelations

top, Calvin Klein Outlet
Coldwater Creek scarf, gift
Beau jeggings, Ross
cardigan, Forever 21

Up to this point I've treated this top as workwear, which means it's always been paired with trousers or a pencil skirt. It was fun to style it more casually with jeggings, a scarf, and light slouchy
cardigan.
It may sound strange, but it wasn't until last week that I've realized how perfect a scarf is for layering. It's lightweight and can be folded away into a bag, doesn't add bulk when worn with a cardigan or blazer, and adds color, pattern and warmth.

It's been years since I wore a watch regularly, but last year I decided that since I was turning 35, a classic watch would be a good accessory. I'm retraining myself to wear a watch everyday and use it to check the time. One motivating factor is that it's fun to mix and match with bracelets! I'm really glad I chose a two-tone watch - it's so easy to wear with all kinds of jewelry.

  1. I've always wished I could be grown up to wear a watch every day! Looks great on you!

  2. I love the different shades of blue coming together in your top garments! And those are jeggings, you say? Congratulations, you are the first person I have ever seen wearing jeggings that look good. They look like nice slim-fit jeans.

  3. You are kidding me about being 35, right? I thought you were in your late twenties! I keep having scarf-related forgetfulness. I KNOW that they're great, but I always forget to utilize them.

  4. Marie - I was so excited the other day to realize that I had actually checked my watch (vs. my phone) for the time. LOL. :)

  5. Thank you, Aya. The top is actually purple but that color befuddles my camera. ;) I call those jeggings because the material is too substantial to be a legging but too thin to be a real jeans denim, and they are really stretchy. My trick for making them flattering is to wear them with a longer top that hits mid-thigh and covers my rear and hips. This top is shorter than I prefer but the scarf and cardi do a good job of covering me and focusing attention on the slimmer parts of my leg. I've been looking for a replacement pair of jeggings at Ross but haven't found these in my size yet!

  6. I'll be 36 in December! :) I have the same problem with scarves - I almost feel like I should make myself wear one once a month so I remember how great they are!

  8. Thank you, Van! I haven't worn this scarf much, and I think this is one of my favorite pairings yet. :)
