February Freeze: orange

Splendid top and Carole quartz necklace, Nordstrom Rack
Beau skinnies, Ross
cardigan and necklace, Forever 21

My second February Freeze item is this orange top. It's cute, but like my first February Freeze  choice, the strange neckline means it hardly gets worn. It appears that the lesson for me when shopping is to not buy it if it has a strange neckline ...

Using Susannah Conway's Unravelling the Year Ahead planner, I picked a theme for each month. January's was "laying the foundation," when I focused on getting on track with healthy habits. So, basically, I  ate a lot of oatmeal (which I love) and resumed my regular schedule for physical activity.

The theme for February is "acts of love, big and small." The focus is on taking care of myself and others better. To that end, I attended my first meditation class on Saturday,  because I've realized that establishing this as a daily practice is something I need to move forward in my life. Also, any $5 bill that comes my way is corralled in an envelope and headed to the bank to build up my savings.
In terms of taking care of others, I'm trying to look more carefully to see what small things might need doing, and doing them without being asked. I think one of the things I love about having a little extra money is spending it on others, whether it's mochi ice cream for the Mr., pastries for the family, or little care packages mailed to friends or family. But since I'm not working regularly (I've been playing an economical grad student for the last two years), I've had to shift my mindset. What can I give? My full attention, careful listening, and thinking ahead about what needs to be done, and just doing it. I also enjoy cooking for my family because it makes me happy to see them enjoying a home-cooked meal.
What do you like to do to show others you care?

  1. You say weird, but I love necklines like this!

I'm very touchy-feely, rather than verbal or action-based. When I care about people, I touch them. Everyone gets a kiss or hug goodnight!

  2. Love the color of your top and the message in the post. I am a mother of two so all I do is give and do things for my family. I also help out my friends in any way I can. For example, I pick up my neighbor's kids everyday from the school bus stop along with my kids and they stay over at our place until their parents get back home. :)

  3. Erin - I don't mind the V neck so much, but it has these strange straps (that you can't see thanks to the cardi) that don't allow me to wear a regular bra.
Yay, you're a hugger! I'm not, but that just means I appreciate the touchy-feely folks more. :)

  4. Heel in Mint - thanks for dropping by! I love that you think not only of your family, but the families around you. I'm sure your neighbor truly appreciates that you pick up their kids afterschool. :)

  5. Whoa, the orange top and the navy cardigan is a really stunning color combination I never thought to pair these two together but it's insanely pretty, the navy just brightens up the orange.
That is such a sweet theme for a month, I'll have to try something like that. Everyone enjoys it when other people take just a moment to do something sweet or kind, so this is really delightful.

  6. Katie - thanks! The color combo was a no-brainer for me - because I think navy goes with everything ... ; )
I really like picking a theme for a month - it's a great way to focus on something! At the same time, it's not overwhelming - instead of trying to improve in 7 different areas at once, I get to focus on one per month. I just need to figure out a way to make it a daily activity (maybe post a little sign somewhere to remind me), and it'd be nice to track how I work on my theme, too. :)
