ruffles and pleats (again)

The best way to figure out how to wear something out of my comfort zone? Wear it with everything, and through trial and error find a combination that feels comfortable and looks good. On Tuesday I paired my pleated midi skirt with a ruffled and patterned top. It's hot enough here to break out the shorts, but this is a more fashionable alternative to the tee-and-shorts look I've succumbed to in the past.
Spying on the neighbors? :)
Lush pleated midi skirt, Nordstrom Rack clearance
blue Bandini, Ross
top, Forever 21
belt, Ross
Indigo by Clarks "Plover" sandal
The verdict? I still think I like this skirt best when paired with a graphic tee. However, it was kind of fun to see how it looks paired up with a girly top. Next up: breaking away from the navy blue and pairing this skirt up with other colors ...

  2. I think this look is great, but I do like the juxtaposition of the graphic tee and the chiffon skirt though. Mostly because that's a look I'd love to pull of but can't. Sad face.

  4. I love this look too :) Makes the look more feminine :) as opposed to edgy :) Looks like you are getting more sunshine while we are losing more sunshine :P

  5. Thanks, Kat! Girly is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I think this turned out OK. :) We've had a string of sunny and warm days, but today's overcast and cooler, which I am thoroughly enjoying. :)

  10. Hi Carrie, I've sent you two e-mails, but not sure you've got them. I am a fashion junkie, and I've been reading Kashmira's blog along with a dozen others for ages. I was just reading it, and 2 clicks later I stumbled upon your blog. If you wish to get back to me, you've got my address. I did get a mail from you about three weeks ago. I don't have a blog yet, but working on it. Ganged up with my niece, we will put together something on one of those rainy days. You do know me, however, you might not remember me or mistake me for myself. I am Canadian, and also a Hun. Which one of me you'd like to pick? My soul sometimes lingers bw these two states fighting with me. I used to have a blog, but that old provider is no more. You know those eternal island folks, sure? Those were the best days of my life. The summer of 69. I thought the internet was bigger than that. I wanted to think it was endless. That's what everyone says. What a small digital world! I hope the Sun is shining over there. If you do not wish to get back to me at this time, just say so :) I am definitely not a bogeyman lurking from under the bed.

  12. Maria -- I've got a decent camera, still learning to use it ... :) And I don't take outdoors photos often, so it's definitely a learning process! :)

  22. I think the pleated skirt looks nice with feminine ruffles and it would be a great base for a bright top!
