Hilo Hattie silk dress, thrifted
I don't really like pink, or aloha prints in general, but after a fruitless hour browsing Goodwill, this dress caught my eye and I took it home without trying it on first (my parking meter time was running out). What can I say? I'm a sucker for thrifted silk and I thought the pink, orange and green print was fun. I also liked the textured lattice effect of the fabric. I was surprised that the husband gave this a thumbs-up - but I think it's just that he likes to see me in soft girly floral things.
A funny story from the weekend: I fell headlong into Maggie Stiefvater's "The Scorpio Races" on Saturday. I had read Stiefvater's "Shiver" trilogy and had mixed feelings about the trilogy as a whole, but picked "Scorpio" up because I had read good things about it. This novel was the perfect weekend-escape read -- Stiefvater swept me away to the dangerously beautiful island of Thisby, where deadly sea horses command both awe and fear when they emerge from the ocean every fall. This novel reminded me of Hale's "Princess Academy" because both novels depend so much on the evocative setting. While I spent a lot of time on my couch last Saturday, in my mind, I was on Thisby. Which means that my husband's well-meaning attempt to engage me in a discussion of my credit score didn't get very far ... after a few distracted responses, he shelved the topic. Rule #1 for the Husbands of Readers: When your wife is deep into a book, don't try to talk to her. ;)
